Regular Season Round 6: Helsinki Seagulls - Kouvot 85-81

Korisliiga top team - Helsinki Seagulls (5-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Kouvot (2-3) 85-81. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kouvot won third quarter 28-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American swingman Raymond Cowels III (193-90, college: Santa Clara) who led his team to a victory with 20 points. The former international guard Alex Vaenerberg (183-92) contributed with 10 points for the winners. Helsinki Seagulls' coach Mikko Larkas allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Rakeem Buckles (203-90, college: FIU) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Steven Pledger (193-90, college: Oklahoma) added 17 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) in the effort for Kouvot. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Helsinki Seagulls have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-0 record. Defending champion Kouvot dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. Helsinki Seagulls' next round opponent will be Lapuan Korikobrat (#5) at home. Kouvot will play against BC Nokia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
