Important game to mention about took place in Liepaja. Seventh ranked Liepaja/Triobet (3-4) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Valmiera (3-4) 69-67 in the game for the sixth place. It looked good early as Valmiera took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Liepaja/Triobet had a 20-11 second period charge getting the lead and Valmiera was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-69. Liepaja/Triobet forced 19 Valmiera turnovers. American point guard Lateef McMullan (180-90, college: Portland St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Arturs Ausejs (190-90) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Forward Ervins Jonats (203-91) replied with 16 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Janis Kaufmanis (186-89) added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Valmiera. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Liepaja/Triobet have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Valmiera. Liepaja/Triobet will play against higher ranked Jurmala (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Valmiera will play against Latvijas Universitate in Riga and hopes to get back on the winning track.
