Regular Season Round 3: Sokhumi - Dinamo Tbilisi 76-111

Date: October 29, 2016
Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Tbilisi: Dinamo Tbilisi (#1) and Sokhumi (#8). Sokhumi was crushed at home by 35 points 76-111 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Dinamo Tbilisi dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Sokhumi's 40 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Sokhumi 49-30 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Mikheil Tchotchua (193-87, agency: Octagon Europe) who led the winners and scored 27 points. Point guard Nodar Gogodze (191-94) accounted for 16 points and 5 assists for the winning side. American point guard Phillip Miller (185-91, college: Wiley) came up with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Dwayne Lathan (190-89, college: Indiana St.) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Sokhumi in the defeat. Five Dinamo Tbilisi and four Sokhumi players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Dinamo Tbilisi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Mgzavrebi.
