Regular Season Round 7: HyPo - Kouvot 77-71

The game between Top Four teams took place in Hyvinkaa. First ranked host HyPo (6-1) defeated 4th placed Kouvottaret (4-3) 77-71. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kouvottaret. Kouvottaret trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 28-22 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 71-77 at the end of the game. HyPo dominated on the defensive end, holding Kouvottaret to just 7 points in first quarter. HyPo had a 32-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier, agency: Regeneracom Sports) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. The former international swingman Henna Salomaa (177-89, college: Oakland) helped adding 18 points. HyPo's coach Miikka Sopanen used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American point guard Khadijah Sessions (173-93, college: S.Carolina, agency: Merit Management Group) responded with 32 points and 4 assists and the other American import forward Whitney Frazier (180-92, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Merit Management Group) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. HyPo have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-1 record. Newly promoted Kouvottaret keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Catz. HyPo are looking forward to face Peli-Karhut (#7) in Kotka in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Kouvottaret will play at home against Aanekosken and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
