Regular Season Round 7: Gernika - Campus Promete 54-49

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Campus Promete (3-4) was defeated on the road by third ranked Gernika (6-1) 54-49 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Campus Promete won third quarter 15-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gernika forced 21 Campus Promete turnovers. It was a great evening for American Amisha Carter (186-82, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Point guard Maria Asurmendi (168-86, agency: Regeneracom Sports) helped adding 12 points. Gernika's coach Mario Lopez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Italian-Australia guard Nicole Romeo (168-89, college: Washington, agency: Regeneracom Sports) responded with 22 points and 5 rebounds and British center Azania Stewart (195-89, college: Florida, agency: Josep and Nicolas) scored 6 points and 6 rebounds. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Gernika. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Avenida. Campus Promete at the other side keeps the seventh position with four games lost. They share it with Cadi La Seu and Ferrol. Gernika will meet league's leader Argon Uni Girona on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Campus Promete will play against Perfumerias Avenida (#3) and hope to secure a win.
