Important game to mention about took place in Alma-Ata. Fourth ranked Almat.Legion (3-1) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Bars (2-2) 71-68 on Saturday evening. Almat.Legion dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Bars' 28. They outrebounded Bars 48-29 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by international guard Yuriy Kozhanov (190-90) who scored that evening 23 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals and center Alexander Danilchenko (203-97) supported him with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Almat.Legion's coach Nikolaj Tanaseychuk allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 14 points and 5 assists by Russia point guard Valentin Kirilin (181-97) did not help to save the game for Bars. Guard Vladimir Voeykov (184-89) added 16 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Four Bars players scored in double figures. Almat.Legion moved-up to second place, which they share with Tobol and Kazygurt. Bars at the other side keep the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Barsy-2. Almat.Legion will play against Irtysh (#7) in Pavlodar in the next round where they are favorite. Bars will play at home against the league's leader Kapshagay and hope to get back on the winning track.
