Regular Season Round 7: Araski - Gipuzkoa UPV 64-60

No shocking result in a game in Vitoria-Gasteiz where fourth ranked Araski (5-2) defeated 11th ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (2-5) 64-60 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gipuzkoa UPV won third quarter 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Araski forced 23 Gipuzkoa UPV turnovers. It was a great evening for Jamaica power forward Vanessa Gidden (192-85, college: Hofstra, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. American Margaret Roundtree (183-88, college: Gardner-Webb) helped adding 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Roundtree is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Araski's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Argentinian center Gisela Vega (188-82) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and Senegalese power forward Oumoul Sarr (185-84) scored 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Gipuzkoa UPV players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Araski. Newly promoted Araski maintains fourth place with 5-2 record. Gipuzkoa UPV at the other side dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Araski will meet Mann Filter (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gipuzkoa UPV will play against Gran Canaria and hope to secure a win.
