Regular Season Round 5: Joventut LC - Barcelona 79-58

There was a minor upset when higher ranked Barcelona (2-3) was outplayed on the road by twelfth ranked Joventut LC (2-3) 79-58 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Joventut LC. Barcelona was better in fourth quarter 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Joventut LC dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Barcelona's 26 and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Barcelona 29-18 including 21 on the defensive glass. Joventut LC looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Angels Farre (165-95) who scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Nerea Garmendia chipped in 15 points. Four Joventut LC players scored in double figures. Joventut LC's coach felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Forward Ana Alonso (187-90) produced 20 points and guard Laura Lopez (171-85) added 8 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Joventut LC moved-up to sixth place in Group A, which they share with 7 other teams including defeated Barcelona. Joventut LC will face Azkoitia (#9) in Azpeitia in the next round.
