Regular Season Round 5: Batalyaws - Leganes 65-91

Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Leganes (4-1) outleveled on the road bottom-ranked Batalyaws (0-5) 91-65 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Leganes. Batalyaws was better in third quarter 25-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Batalyaws to just 5 points in fourth quarter. Leganes dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Batalyaws' 24 and made 25-of-32 free shots (78.1 percent) during the game. Leganes forced 21 Batalyaws turnovers. The best player for the winners was swingman Maria Espin (180-89) who scored 20 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American forward Christina Marinacci (185-91, college: USC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Leganes players scored in double figures. Forward Pamela Moral (175-82) produced 18 points and 5 assists and Brazilian-Portuguese forward Larisse Lima (185-88) added 22 points respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Leganes. They moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with Distrito Olimpico. Batalyaws lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. Leganes will face Picken Claret (#9) in Valencia in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Batalyaws will play on the road against Antiguo Boscos in Zaragoza and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
