Regular Season Round 5: ToPo - Lahti 89-73

The biggest surprise took place in Helsinki where host ToPo (5-1) beat Lahti (4-2) 89-73 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the top position in Division. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-73. ToPo forced 29 Lahti turnovers. The best player for the winners was swingman Juuso Kauppinen (188-94) who scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. American swingman Nigel Moore (195-81, college: Alabama A&M) chipped in 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Four ToPo players scored in double figures. American guard Rashad Smith (201-93, college: Tulsa) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import power forward Jerald Fields (201-82, college: E.Tenn.St.) added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. ToPo keeps a position of Division leader. Lahti at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by PuHu Juniorit. Lahti will play next round against HBA-Marsky trying to make it back to the top of the standings. ToPo will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Oulun NMKY at home.
