Regular Season Round 5: Weert - Zwolle 68-72
Date: October 29, 2016
Bottom-ranked Weert (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 72-68 loss to leader Zwolle (5-0) in Weert on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Zwolle dominated on the defensive end, holding Weert to just 7 points in first quarter. They also forced 21 Weert turnovers. American guard J.T. Tiller (188-88, college: Missouri) stepped up and scored 23 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals for the winners and his fellow American import center Clayton Vette (202-88, college: Winona St.) chipped in 25 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Point guard Kasper Averink (183-93) responded with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and power forward Dyon Halman (204-94, agency: Court Side) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Four Weert players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Zwolle. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Groningen. Weert lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Dukes UDB. Zwolle will meet at home league's leader Groningen in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Weert will play against Rotterdam (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
