Regular Season Round 11: Chiba Jets - Toyota Alvark 84-87

A very interesting game took place in Chiba. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed Chiba Jets (5-6) to second ranked Toyota Alvark (9-2) 87-84 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Chiba Jets. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-17. But Chiba Jets won second period 23-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyota Alvark dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Chiba Jets' 32. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was forward Troy Gillenwater (205-88, college: N.Mexico St.) who scored 26 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) chipped in 24 points and 4 assists. Center Hilton Armstrong (210-84, college: Connecticut) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and Tyler Stone (203-91, college: SE Missouri St.) added 17 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Chiba Jets players scored in double figures. Chiba Jets' coach Atsushi Ono rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Toyota Alvark used an opportunity after Tochigi Brex lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Chiba Jets at the other side dropped to the fourth place with six games lost. Toyota Alvark will have a break next round. Chiba Jets will play again at home against the league's second-placed Toyota Alvark (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
