Regular Season Round 4: Carugate - Empoli 58-67

Bottom-ranked Carugate (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 67-58 loss to seventh ranked Empoli (3-1) in Corugate. The guests were already 13 points ahead at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 17-12 last quarter charge of Carugate cut the lead to 67-58 at the end of the game. The winners were led by Czech center Klara Pochobradska (186-89) who scored that evening 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and Lithuania forward Gabriele Narviciute (190-90) supported her with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Four Empoli players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds by the former international forward Emily Correal (190-90, college: William & Mary, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Carugate. Guard Linda Manzini (176-90) added 22 points for lost side. Carugate's coach Paolo Re tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Empoli moved-up to fourth place in A2. Carugate at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Empoli's next round opponent will be higher ranked Albino (#3) at home and it may be the game of the week. Carugate will play against Scrivia (#7) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
