Very expected game when 10th ranked Virtus Cagliari (1-3) was rolled over at home by fourth ranked Costa Masnaga (3-1) 76-50 on Saturday. The game without a history. Costa Masnaga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Virtus Cagliari to just 7 points in second quarter. Costa Masnaga dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Virtus Cagliari's 28. Costa Masnaga forced 25 Virtus Cagliari turnovers and outrebounded them 36-25 including 21 on the defensive glass. Guard Valentina Baldelli (170-89) fired 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Swingman Alessandra Visconti (187-87) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Four Costa Masnaga players scored in double figures. Coach Gabriele Pirola's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. British-Portuguese center Lavinia Da Silva (187-88) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and the former international power forward Silvia Sarni (188-87) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Despite that victory Costa Masnaga went down to fifth position (A2) due to points difference. Loser Virtus Cagliari dropped to the eleventh place with three games lost. Costa Masnaga will face Alghero (#13) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Virtus Cagliari will play against Team Crema and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
