Regular Season Round 6: Shandong - Sichuan 57-81

Bottom-ranked Shandong (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 81-57 loss to tenth ranked Whale (2-4) in Jinan on Saturday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Shandong's 30 and made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Whale forced 19 Shandong turnovers and had a 34-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. American center Stefanie Dolson (196-92, college: Connecticut) had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 21 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Fangzhu Gong (170-91) chipped in 20 points and 7 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Hengyu Yang (194-95) with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international power forward Xiao Ji (193-85) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Whale moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Liaoning. Loser Shandong still closes the standings with six games lost. Whale will meet at home higher ranked Bayi Kylin (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Shandong will play against Guangdong Dolphins (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
