Rather expected game in Saporro where 5th ranked Hokkaido L. (4-8) was defeated by third ranked Sendai 89ers (6-6) 72-61 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-61. Sendai 89ers outrebounded Hokkaido L. 40-29 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Dion Wright (201-93, college: St.Bonaventure) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and South Africa center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) who added 5 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Sendai 89ers' coach Takeo Mabashi used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American center Daniel Miller (211-91, college: Georgia Tech) with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international guard Takehiko Orimo (190-70) scored 13 points. Sendai 89ers have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 6-6 record having just three points less than leader Tochigi Brex, which they share with Hitachi SR. Hokkaido L. lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with eight games lost. Sendai 89ers will face Chiba Jets (#4) at home in the next round. Hokkaido L. will play against the league's leader Tochigi Brex and hope to win that game.
