Regular Season Round 12: Fukushima - Gunma 70-54

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Gunma (9-3) on the court of second ranked Fukushima on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Fukushima 70-54. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Gunma. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Fukushima. Gunma managed to win third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Gunma to just 6 points in second quarter. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fukushima made 8 blocks. It was a good game for American center Nigel Spikes (208-89, college: Marshall) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Shota Kanno (187-92) contributed with 13 points for the winners. Nigeria forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC) replied with 20 points and 8 rebounds and Lithuania center Deividas Busma (212-87, college: Idaho St., agency: Two Points) added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Gunma. Gunma's coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Fukushima maintains second position with 7-5 record having four points less than leader Gunma, which they share with Cyberdyne IR. Gunma at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Fukushima will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gunma will play at home against Aomori Watts and is hoping to win this game.
