Regular Season Round 5: Umana VE - Vanoli CR 81-73
Date: October 30, 2016
Very predictable result when seventh ranked Umana Venezia (3-2) won against at home 15th ranked Vanoli Cremona (1-4) 81-73 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Vanoli Cremona won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Umana Venezia made 7 blocks. Naturalized Argentinian point guard Ariel Filloy (189-87, agency: Interperformances) nailed 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and American-Georgia point guard Marquez Haynes (191-86, college: Texas Arlington) accounted for 15 points. Four Umana Venezia players scored in double figures. Naturalized Cameroonian center Paul Biligha (200-90, agency: Players Group) came up with 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and American guard Tu Holloway (182-89, college: Xavier) added 23 points respectively for Vanoli Cremona in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Umana Venezia moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Vanoli Cremona lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the fourteenth position with four games lost. They share it with VL Pesaro and Brescia. Umana Venezia will meet bottom-ranked VL Pesaro (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Vanoli Cremona will play against Enel Brindisi and hope to win that game.
