WNBL top team - Bendigo Spirit (4-2) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat seventh ranked Townsville Fire (2-3) 74-62. The game was mostly controlled by Bendigo Spirit. Townsville Fire managed to win fourth quarter 20-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Townsville Fire 49-30 including 17 on the offensive glass. Canadian power forward Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe (188-91, college: Simon Fraser) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Four Bendigo Spirit players scored in double figures. Naturalized Croatia center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) produced 20 points and 5 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) and guard Mia Murray (184-88) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Townsville Fire's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bendigo Spirit maintains first position with 4-2 record, which they share with Dandenong and Perth. Townsville Fire lost third consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the seventh place with three games lost. Bendigo Spirit will meet at home Canberra Capitals (#4) in the next round. Townsville Fire will play against Sydney Uni Flames and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
