Regular Season Round 7: Snaefell - Keflavik 72-68

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Keflavik (5-2) in Stykkisholmur on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Snaefell (5-2) 72-68. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Keflavik. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-8. But Keflavik won second period 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Snaefell forced 22 Keflavik turnovers. Strangely Keflavik outrebounded Snaefell 35-0 including a 25- advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Aaryn Ellenberg (170-92, college: Oklahoma) who led her team to a victory scoring 26 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. International forward Berglind Gunnarsdottir (178-93) helped adding 17 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Dominique Hudson (165-89, college: Gardner-Webb) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 7 steals and center Salbjorg Saevarsdottir (182-91) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Keflavik's coach Sverrir Sverrisson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Keflavik and Skallagrimur. Snaefell is looking forward to face league's second-placed Skallagrimur in Borganes in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Keflavik will play on the road against Stjarnan and is hoping to win this game.
