Regular Season Round 7: Stjarnan - Grindavik 67-59

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Grindavik's (2-5) road loss to fifth ranked Stjarnan (4-3) 59-67 on Wednesday. Grindavik was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Stjarnan forced 21 Grindavik turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Stjarnan made 7 blocks. American guard Danielle Rodriguez (178-93, college: Utah) fired a double-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks for the winners. The former international center Ragna Brynjarsdottir (188-90) chipped in 15 points. American swingman Ashley Grimes (175-91, college: UAB) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and the former international center Maria Ben Erlingsdottir (187-88, college: UTRGV) added 17 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Stjarnan moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Njardvik. Loser Grindavik keeps the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with Haukar. Stjarnan will meet at home league's leader Keflavik in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Grindavik will play against Haukar (#7) in Hafnarfjordur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
