Regular Season Round 5: Valmiera/ORDO-2 - Marupe 68-99

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Valmiera/ORDO-2 (2-5) was crushed at home by fourth ranked Marupe (3-2) 99-68 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Marupe led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Valmiera/ORDO-2's 44. Marupe forced 19 Valmiera/ORDO-2 turnovers and outrebounded them 38-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Valmiera/ORDO-2's players. The best player for the winners was center Roberts Zubulis (203-96) who scored 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Guard Karlis Vecens (185-95) chipped in 8 points, 5 rebounds and 14 assists. Guard Rainers Kalnins (188-99) produced 16 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Edgars Kaufmanis (185-99) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Valmiera/ORDO-2 players scored in double figures. Valmiera/ORDO-2's coach Sandis Amolins gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Marupe moved-up to third place, which they share with Livani. Loser Valmiera/ORDO-2 keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Marupe will face Livani (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Valmiera/ORDO-2 will play against the league's second-placed Ogre/Kumho Tyre and hope to win that game.
