Regular Season Round 7: Indios - Barreteros 87-90

Date: November 5, 2016
Bottom-ranked Barreteros managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of five consecutive losses. This time newly promoted Barreteros edged seventh-ranked Ciudad in Ciudad Juarez 90-87. Ciudad was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Barreteros made 20-of-23 charity shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Ciudad was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated the game. It was a great evening for center James Williams (204-79, college: Brown Mackie) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Paul Marigney (192-82, college: St.Mary's, CA) helped adding 19 points (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Four Barreteros players scored in double figures. At the losing side swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) responded with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and guard John Taylor (185-89, college: Fresno Pacific) scored 26 points and 5 rebounds. Ciudad's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Barreteros (2-5) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Ciudad. Barreteros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ciudad will play again at home against Barreteros (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
