Regular Season Round 12: Hitachi Cougars - Chanson V-M 66-70

Very expected game when 9th ranked Hitachi Cougars (2-8) lost to third ranked Chanson V-M (8-2) in Hitachinaka 66-70 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 16-7. But Hitachi Cougars won third quarter 24-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Chanson V-M dominated on the defensive end, holding Hitachi Cougars to just 7 points in first quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Cougars' 26. They outrebounded Hitachi Cougars 45-33 including a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Chanson V-M made 7 blocks. It was a good game for international forward Sanae Motokawa (175-92) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Kana Motoyama (180-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Ishiguro Mutsumi (175-92) replied with 11 points and 5 rebounds and guard Yuki Kitamura (170-94) added 16 points in the effort for Hitachi Cougars. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Chanson V-M have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 8-2 record having just two points less than leader JX-Eneos S., which they share with Fujitsu RW and Denso Iris. Hitachi Cougars lost eighth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost. Chanson V-M will face Haneda Vickies (#8) in Tokyo in the next round where they are favorite. Hitachi Cougars will play at home against the league's second-placed Toyota A. and hope to win that game.
