Regular Season Round 5: Costa Masnaga - Alghero 93-52

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Alghero (0-5) was smashed on the road by fifth ranked Costa Masnaga (4-1) 93-52 on Saturday. The game without a history. Costa Masnaga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Alghero to just 7 points in first quarter. Costa Masnaga held Alghero to an opponent 20.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 47.2 percent accuracy of the winners and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Costa Masnaga forced 19 Alghero turnovers and outrebounded them 55-28 including a 40-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Costa Masnaga especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. Power forward Giulia Rulli (185-91) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Swingman Alessandra Visconti (187-87) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Five Costa Masnaga players scored in double figures. Costa Masnaga's coach Gabriele Pirola felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bulgaria point guard Iva Georgieva (170-96, college: Salt Lake CC) answered with 22 points and 5 steals and guard Camilla Barbone (169-93) added 7 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Alghero. Costa Masnaga moved-up to fourth place in A2. Newly promoted Alghero still closes the standings with five games lost. Costa Masnaga will face Albino (#6) on the road in the next round. Alghero will play against the league's leader Sesto SG (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
