Basket Gdynia's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after six consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat MKK Siedlce (1-6) 71-59 on Saturday. They outrebounded MKK Siedlce 49-33 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Basket Gdynia looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American center Carolyn Swords (198-89, college: Boston Coll., agency: LBM Management) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Montenegrin guard Jelena Skerovic (176-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas) accounted for 7 points, 8 rebounds and 13 assists for the winning side. Four Basket Gdynia players scored in double figures. Basket Gdynia's coach Katarzyna Dydek used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ukrainian forward Oksana Mollova (188-88) came up with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Karolina Pobozy (186-96) added 12 points respectively for MKK Siedlce in the defeat. Basket Gdynia left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated MKK Siedlce. Basket Gdynia will meet at home TS Ostrovia (#11) in the next round. MKK Siedlce will play against the league's second-placed AZS Gorzow Wielkopolski having rather not much hope for a victory.
