Regular Season Round 6: ADBA - Cortegada 47-50

Very predictable result when third ranked Cortegada (5-1) edged 11th ranked ADBA (2-4) in Aviles 50-47 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 50-47. Cortegada dominated on the defensive end, holding ADBA to just 6 points in second quarter. Cortegada shot 22 for 35 from the free-throw line, while ADBA only scored five points from the stripe. ADBA was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Cape Verdean-American guard Vandell Andrade (179-93, college: Le Moyne) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Belen Mejias (180-91) contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Andrea Malanda (164-90) replied with 14 points and French forward Rudiane Eduardo (185-93, college: UTEP) added 6 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for ADBA. Cortegada have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in Group A, which they share with Arxil Pontev. Loser ADBA dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Cortegada will face league's second-placed Arxil Pontevedra at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. ADBA will play against GDKO Bizkaia (#7) in Galdakao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
