Regular Season Round 8: PeKa - HyPo 61-83
Date: November 5, 2016
Leader HyPo delivered the seventh victory. This time they crushed 8th ranked Peli-Karhut (2-6) 83-61 in Kotka. The game was mostly controlled by HyPo. Peli-Karhut was better in second period 17-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Peli-Karhut to just 7 points in first quarter. HyPo forced 20 Peli-Karhut turnovers and outrebounded them 42-24 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier, agency: Regeneracom Sports) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and American guard Bria Goss (178-92, college: Kentucky) supported her with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Four HyPo players scored in double figures. Even 17 points and 7 rebounds by American forward Akilah Sims (178-94, college: IUPUI) did not help to save the game for Peli-Karhut. Saara Wahlgren (174-92) added 12 points and 4 assists for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. HyPo (7-1) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Peli-Karhut lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with six games lost. HyPo's next round opponent will be Helmi Basket (#9) in Helsinki and are hoping to win another game. Peli-Karhut will play on the road against Aanekosken in Aanekoski and hope to win that game.
