Regular Season Round 9: Shanghai - Shandong 81-72

Bottom-ranked Shandong (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 81-72 loss to fifth ranked Shanghai Dahua (6-3) in Shanghai on Saturday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Shandong's 34. They outrebounded Shandong 37-20 including a 26-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Breanna Stewart (193-94, college: Connecticut) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and power forward Huan Huan (185-90) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Shanghai Dahua's coach Wengui Li used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Xiao Ji (193-85) with 18 points and point guard Jie Yu (178-88) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Four Shandong players scored in double figures. Shanghai Dahua moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Bayi. Loser Shandong still closes the standings with nine games lost. Shanghai Dahua will meet at home Bayi Kylin (#5) in the next round. Shandong will play against the league's leader Henan (#1) in Jiyuan and hopes to get finally their first victory.
