Regular Season Round 5: Cagliari CUS - San Salvatore 48-55

Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Cagliari CUS (1-3) lost at home to eighth ranked San Salvatore (3-2) 55-48 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 19-8. But Cagliari CUS won second period 11-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international guard Cinzia Arioli (178-84, agency: LBM Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points and 7 rebounds. Francesca Russo (178-96) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. San Salvatore's coach Fabrizio Staico used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Elena Riccardi (187-82) answered with 13 points and 4 steals and forward Angela Dettori (182-96) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Cagliari CUS. San Salvatore moved-up to seventh place in A2. Loser Cagliari CUS keeps the tenth position with three games lost. San Salvatore will face Bolzano (#12) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cagliari CUS will play against Empoli and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the Serie A1 just one year after relegation.
