Regular Season Round 8: Helmi Basket - Huima 114-68
Date: November 6, 2016
Bottom-ranked Helmi Basket managed to get the second consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time newly promoted Helmi Basket outleveled sixth-ranked Aanekosken in Helsinki 114-68. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 46-point difference suggests that Helmi Basket is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. And what about a second win in a row after ...six consecutive losses. The game without a history. Helmi Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Aanekosken's 34. Helmi Basket forced 34 Aanekosken turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Aanekosken's players. Worth to mention a great performance of international center Helmi Tulonen (189-98) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 5 rebounds and center Sofia Rajala (181-98) who added 24 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) during the contest. American guard Faith Randolph (178, college: Virginia, agency: Merit Management Group) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Riina Karkkainen (166-98) scored 21 points and 4 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Helmi Basket (2-6) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Espoo Team and PeKa. Aanekosken at the other side keeps the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with ViVe. Helmi Basket will meet league's leader HyPo in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Aanekosken will play against Peli-Karhut (#10) and hope to secure a win.
