Regular Season Round 7: Toros - Garzas 73-76

Important game to mention about took place in Nuevo Laredo. Sixth ranked Garzas (3-4) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 3rd ranked Toros (5-3) 76-73 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Toros. Toros were ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 44-38 second half run of Garzas. They made 33-of-38 charity shots (86.8 percent) during the game. Toros were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by American Wayne Chism (206-87, college: Tennessee) who scored that evening 14 points and 7 rebounds and international forward Edgar Garibay (208-90, college: Long Beach St.) supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Garzas players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) by Puerto Rican swingman Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) did not help to save the game for Toros. The former international center Lorenzo Mata (205-86, agency: Pro Sports) added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Garzas maintains sixth position with 3-4 record. Toros at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the third place with three games lost. Garzas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toros will play on the road against the league's leader Fuerza Regia in Monterrey and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
