Regular Season Round 5: Maccabi Rishon - Galil Gilboa 75-73

Date: November 6, 2016
The most exciting game of round 5 in the Winner League took place in Rishon Le-Zion. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Galil Gilboa (2-3) to fourth ranked Maccabi Rishon (3-2) 75-73 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Galil Gilboa. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Galil Gilboa won fourth quarter 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Maccabi Rishon made 7 blocks. 24 personal fouls committed by Galil Gilboa helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American power forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) who scored 15 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Javon McCrea (201-92, college: Buffalo) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Eric Griffin (203-90, college: Campbell) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Ezequiel Skverer (185-89) added 21 points respectively for the guests. Four Galil Gilboa players scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Hapoel J-M and Hapoel T-A. Newly promoted Galil Gilboa dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Maccabi Rishon is looking forward to face Ironi Nahariya (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Galil Gilboa will play against Hapoel Eilat (#9) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
