Regular Season Round 5: Marghera - Stabia 70-58

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Castellammare (1-4) lost to leader Marghera (5-0) in Venezia 58-70 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Marghera. Castellammare was better in fourth quarter 19-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Marghera dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Castellammare's 26. They outrebounded Castellammare 44-32 including 18 on the offensive glass. Marghera looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Castellammare's players. Center Beatrice Baldi (185-0) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Federica Iannucci (175-93) contributed with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American-Irish forward Fiona O'Dwyer (178-99, college: Emmanuel, MA) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Maria Ortolani (178-97) added 16 points in the effort for Castellammare. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Marghera maintains second place in A2 with 5-0 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Sesto SG. Loser Castellammare dropped to the twelfth position with four games lost. Marghera will face Civitanova (#3) in Civitanova Marche in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Castellammare will play at home against Marinella (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
