Regular Season Round 14: Toyota Alvark - Akita NH 64-78

There was a surprise result when sixth ranked Akita Happinets (3-11) beat second-ranked Toyota Alvark (11-3) in Tokyo 78-64 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Akita Happinets. Toyota Alvark was better in third quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Toyota Alvark to just 7 points in second quarter. It was a great shooting night for Akita Happinets especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Guard Seiya Ando (184-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. American Kevin Palmer (198-87, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Comsport) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Akita Happinets players scored in double figures. American point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) replied with 28 points and 5 rebounds and international power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85) added 6 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Toyota Alvark. Akita Happinets maintains sixth position with 3-11 record. Loser Toyota Alvark still keeps top place with three games lost. Akita Happinets will face higher ranked Chiba Jets (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Toyota Alvark will play against Hokkaido L. in Saporro and hope to win that game.
