Regular Season Round 7: Le Portel - Pau-Lacq-Orthez 63-72

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Le Portel (2-5) was defeated at home by second ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (6-1) 72-63 on Monday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Le Portel won third quarter 21-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pau-Lacq-Orthez looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American point guard D.J. Cooper (183-90, college: Ohio) fired 4 points, 7 rebounds, 18 assists and 4 steals for the winners. His fellow American import Ronald Lewis (193-84, college: Ohio St., agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 17 points. American power forward Franklin Hassell (203-88, college: ODU, agency: Inception Sports) produced 14 points and 7 rebounds and Moroccan-Canadian Mohamed Hachad (194-83, college: Northwestern) added 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals respectively for lost side. Le Portel's coach Eric Girard let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Pau-Lacq-Orthez have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They used an opportunity after Monaco lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Loser Le Portel dropped to the fifteenth place with five games lost. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will face Hyeres-Toulon (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Le Portel will play against Entente Orleans 45 (#17) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
