Regular Season Round 8: Melilla - Caceres 79-72

An interesting game took place in Melilla where higher ranked Caceres Basket (2-5) was upset on the court of seventeenth ranked Melilla Baloncesto (3-5) 79-72 on Tuesday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Caceres Basket. Caceres Basket trailed by 22 points at halftime and as many as 26 after three quarters before a 30-11 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 72-79 at the end of the game. Strangely Caceres Basket outrebounded Melilla Baloncesto 46-23 including a 23-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Melilla Baloncesto looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Dutch forward Kevin van Wijk (203-89, college: Valparaiso) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and center Oliver Arteaga (208-83) who added 13 points during the contest. Croatia center Aleksandar Marcius (208-90, college: De Paul) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds and Montenegrin guard Nikola Rakocevic (191-91, agency: Dynamics Global Management) scored 17 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Melilla Baloncesto moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Prat. Loser Caceres Basket dropped to the thirteenth position with five games lost. Melilla Baloncesto will face higher ranked Palencia Baloncesto (#6) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Caceres Basket will play against the league's leader Leyma Basquet (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
