Regular Season Round 14: Obras Basket - Penarol 95-85

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Obras Basket (6-7) won against 5th ranked Penarol (6-6) in Buenos Aires 95-85 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-85. Obras Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Penarol's 26 and made 25-of-30 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Obras Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Penarol was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Dennis Horner (205-88, college: N.Carolina St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Pedro Barral (186-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds and 14 assists for the winners. Four Obras Basket players scored in double figures. The former international forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) replied with 22 points and 4 assists and American guard Rob Reed (185-90, college: Concord) added 24 points in the effort for Penarol. Obras Basket maintains seventh position in Sur with 6-7 record. Penarol lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with six games lost. Obras Basket's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Buenos Aires Boca Juniors.
