Regular Season Round 9: HyPo - Helmi Basket 76-78

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked HyPo (7-2) in Hyvinkaa on Friday night. Hosts were edged by ninth ranked Helmi Basket (3-6) 78-76. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of HyPo. The guests trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 27-20 charge, which allowed them to win the game. It was a good game for center Sofia Rajala (181-98) who led her team to a victory with 28 points and 8 rebounds. International center Helmi Tulonen (189-98) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Helmi Basket's coach Pekka Salminen used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Bria Goss (178-92, college: Kentucky) answered with 27 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier, agency: Regeneracom Sports) added 16 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for HyPo. Helmi Basket have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place. HyPo at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with FoA and Espoo Utd. Helmi Basket are looking forward to face higher ranked Aanekosken (#6) in Aanekoski in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. HyPo will play at home against Catz Lappeenranta (#5) and is hoping to win this game.
