Regular Season Round 8: Abejas - Santos 87-85

A very close game took place in Guanajuato between Abejas and Santos. Fifth ranked Abejas (4-3) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Santos (2-6). Abejas managed to escape with a 2-point win 87-85 on Friday evening. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-85. Strangely Santos outrebounded Abejas 36-20 including 23 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Abejas made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (196-89, college: W.Kentucky, agency: HMS) who scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. The other American import guard Matt Glover (196-91, college: USF) chipped in 15 points. Four Abejas players scored in double figures. Naturalized American guard Martin Samarco (190-85, college: Bowling Green) produced 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American point guard Earl Rabb (196-87, college: Midwestern St.) added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Abejas moved-up to fourth place. Santos lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with six games lost. Abejas will again meet at home Santos (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Santos will have a break next round.
