There was no surprise in Buenos Aires where 9th ranked Boca Juniors (3-12) was outplayed by seventh ranked Obras Basket (7-7) 107-86 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Obras Basket. Boca Juniors was better in third quarter 27-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Obras Basket made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Boca Juniors was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American forward Dennis Horner (205-88, college: N.Carolina St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Walter Herrmann (206-79) helped adding 27 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The best for the losing side was center Eduardo Vassirani (200-91) with 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Greek Fotios Lampropoulos (206-83) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Obras Basket moved-up to fifth place in Sur. Boca Juniors lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 12 games lost. Obras Basket will face Argentino (#6) in Junin in the next round. Boca Juniors will play on the road against Hispano Am. in Rio Gallegos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
