Regular Season Round 14: Hitachi Cougars - Toyota A. 39-59

There was no surprise in Hitachinaka where 9th ranked Hitachi Cougars (2-10) were crushed by top-ranked Toyota A. (12-0) 59-39 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota A.. Hitachi Cougars was better in fourth quarter 11-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Hitachi Cougars to just 6 points in third quarter. Toyota A. made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Hitachi Cougars were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Saki Mizushima (171-91) who scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. The former international guard Yuko Oga (170-82) chipped in 15 points. Power forward Chika Suzuki (183-93) produced 9 points and 5 rebounds and swingman Elina Sugawara (177-93) added 6 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toyota A. have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with JX-Eneos S. Hitachi Cougars lost tenth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with ten games lost. Toyota A. will face Haneda Vickies (#8) in Tokyo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hitachi Cougars will play on the road against Mitsubishi K. in Nagoya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
