Regular Season Round 10: Estudiantes O. - Atenas Carmen 88-85

Fifth-ranked Atenas (2-6) gave a tough game to first ranked Estudiantes O. (6-2) in Olavarria. Estudiantes O. managed to secure only three-point victory 88-85. However their fans expected much easier game. It looked good early as Atenas took a 10-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Estudiantes O. had a 27-13 second period charge getting the lead and Atenas was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 85-88. Estudiantes O. players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Swingman Santiago Arese (196-87) notched 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and point guard Andres Lugli (170-95) supported him with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Estudiantes O. players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 29 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists by American forward Scott Cutley (196-85, college: CS Fullerton) did not help to save the game for Atenas. His fellow American import forward Howard Wilkerson (198-84, college: Wofford) added 20 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Estudiantes O. have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-2 record, which they share with Union SF and Temperley. Atenas at the other side dropped to the sixth place with six games lost. They share the position with Mitre Tuc. and SP Las Parejas. Estudiantes O. will play against Petr.Argentino (#4) in Plaza Huincul in the next round. Atenas will play on the road against Olimpo in Bahia Blanca and hopes to get back on the winning track.
