Regular Season Round 9: Estela - Mondragon 92-66

Very predictable result in Santander where leader Estela (7-0) outscored 7th ranked Mondragon (3-4) 92-66 on Saturday. They outrebounded Mondragon 44-22 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Estela looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Mondragon's players. The best player for the winners was American guard Riley Stockton (192-92, college: Seattle Pacific) who scored 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Pablo Sanchez (198-81) chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Estela players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Ivan Saez de Cortazar (198-91) who recorded 14 points and guard Martxel Balanzategui (191-92) added 8 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Estela have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group A-A with 7-0 record. Mondragon lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with four games lost. Estela will face league's second-placed Ardoi in Zizur Mayor in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mondragon will play at home against Valladolid Univ. (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
