Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Alkar Sinj (3-4) defeated at home 11th ranked Kvarner (1-6) 89-71 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 18 points. Alkar Sinj made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Kvarner turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Kvarner's players. It was a great evening for American guard Brandon Johnson (183-86, college: San Diego, agency: Haylett Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 14 assists. Center Hrvoje Vucic (212-91, college: Walsh) helped adding 24 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). Four Alkar Sinj players scored in double figures. Alkar Sinj's coach let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the losing side point guard Mauro Veljacic (183-93) responded with 21 points and power forward Mate Vucic (203-97) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Alkar Sinj maintains ninth place with 3-4 record. Kvarner lost their third game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with six games lost. Alkar Sinj will face higher ranked KK Zagreb (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kvarner will play against the league's leader GKK Sibenik (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
