Regular Season Round 16: Gunma - Yamagata 71-65

Everything went according to plan when first ranked Gunma (12-3) beat at home 4th ranked Yamagata (7-8) 71-65 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 14 points after three quarters before their 26-6 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Gunma dominated on the defensive end, holding Yamagata to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Strangely Yamagata outrebounded Gunma 43-27 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and point guard Hirotaka Kondo (187-82) who added 14 points during the contest. At the losing side American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) responded with 12 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Yuichi Ishikawa (173-87) scored 6 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gunma have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-3 record, which they share with Hiroshima D. Loser Yamagata keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. Gunma will face again Yamagata (#4) at home in the next round.
