Regular Season Round 8: Distrito Olimpico - Leganes 66-84

Leader Leganes delivered the seventh victory. This time they beat 14th ranked Distrito Olimpico (5-3) 84-66 in Madrid. The game was mostly controlled by Leganes. Distrito Olimpico was better in fourth quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leganes forced 21 Distrito Olimpico turnovers. 24 personal fouls committed by Distrito Olimpico helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American forward Christina Marinacci (185-91, college: USC) who scored that evening 11 points and 8 rebounds and forward Paula Justel (186-92) supported her with 12 points. Four Leganes players scored in double figures. Even 16 points and 8 rebounds by swingman Maria Bolonio (180-85) did not help to save the game for Distrito Olimpico. Dominican guard Yohanna Morton (172-87, college: Robert Morris) added 14 points for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leganes (7-1) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group B. Distrito Olimpico at the other side dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. Leganes' next round opponent will be IF Air Europa (#11) in S'Arenal and are hoping to win another game. Distrito Olimpico will play on the road against Antiguo Boscos (#7) in Zaragoza and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
