Regular Season Round 9: Valladolid - Zornotza 77-59

There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Blancos de Rueda (5-4) beat 6th ranked Zornotza (5-4) in Valladolid 77-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Blancos de Rueda. Zornotza was better in fourth quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Blancos de Rueda dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Zornotza's 34. They outrebounded Zornotza 52-29 including a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for center Sergio De La Fuente (198-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. British forward Rowell Graham (197-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Blancos de Rueda's coach Inaki Martin Garcia used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Mali-American power forward Nouhoum Bocoum (208-94, college: Arkansas St., agency: SDJ Sports) answered with 21 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Greg Gantt (188-91, college: Florida Atlantic) added 23 points in the effort for Zornotza. Blancos de Rueda moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Zornotza. Blancos de Rueda will face Navarra (#15) in Pamplona in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zornotza will play at home against the league's leader Sammic ISB (#1) and hope to win that game.
