An interesting game was played in Dandong where Shandong (#5) beat host Shenyang Golden Lions (#6) 81-71 on Saturday evening. Shandong outrebounded Shenyang Golden Lions 40-21 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) scored 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Jie Yu (178-88) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Shandong players scored in double figures. The former international forward Shuang Zhao (188-90) responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds and international forward Meng Li (185-95) scored 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Shandong (1-1) left bottom position moving up to third place in Group B, which they share with Sichuan. Loser Shenyang Golden Lions still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with Liaoning. Shandong will meet at home Whale (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Shenyang Golden Lions will play against Liaoning Hengye and hope to get finally their first victory.
