Regular Season Round 9: Gran Canaria - Real Madrid 68-76

Date: November 20, 2016
Very expected game in Las Palmas where 9th ranked Gran Canaria (4-5) was defeated by second ranked Real Madrid (7-1) 76-68 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 21-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Gran Canaria was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. International Sergio Llull (190-87) stepped up and scored 13 points and 7 assists for the winners and Argentinian-Italian Andres Nocioni (203-79) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American-Slovakian swingman Kyle Kuric (193-89, college: Louisville) with 15 points and Dominican forward Eulis Baez (201-82, college: W.Illinois) scored 11 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with FC Barcelona. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the ninth place with five games lost. Real Madrid will face bottom-ranked La ICL Manresa (#17) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gran Canaria will play against Movil Estudiantes (#11) in Madrid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
